HOT Clearance Deals

I went to Walmart this morning and found a couple super hot deals in the Christmas clearance!

The first deal I found were on the Justice League Gillette razor and shaving cream sets. They are regularly $9.88 and were on clearance 50% off making them $4.94 PLUS I had an Ibotta rebate for $2 off and Justice League Gillette razor set making them $2.94 each! The Ibotta rebate can be redeemed up to 5 times.

The next deal was on the Quaker instant oatmeal in the Gingerbread Spice flavor. It is in an 8 count box on clearance for $2 and I had an innocent rebate for $1 off one Quaker instant oatmeal in the Gingerbread Spice flavor that could be redeemed up to 5 times. I got five boxes and after rebates were $1 each box!!!

I also had an Ibotta challenge that required me to redeem 2 rebates and I would get a $2 bonus. With these 7 items I paid $19.88 and I got back $11 making my total $8.88 for 2 razor sweets and 5 boxes of oatmeal!

If you would like to join Ibotta and get these awesome deals you will get a $10 bonus when you redeem your first rebate using my code: genmojr or go to  https://ibotta.com/r/genmojr to get signed up. If you are new to Ibotta and do these deals it could be a money maker for you!

Merry Christmas

I just wanted to wish you all a very merry Christmas! Hope you all have an amazing day with family and friends.

Christmas Traditions

Christmas Eve we would gather around the tree and open one present each (usually pajamas that we could wear that night). After we opened the gifts and changed into our new PJs we would put out cookies for Santa and carrots for all the reindeer. We would then listen to our dad read The Night Before Christmas and rush to bed so Santa would come and leave us presents!

Every year that I can remember (around 3 years old) I would wake up super early in the morning. Sometimes as early as 2A.M.! But my parents wouldn’t let me or my brother out of bed until 5A.M., but as soon as 5 o’clock hit I was jumping on my parents bed yelling ‘Santa came’ over and over until they told me I could get into the presents!

My brother and I were only allowed to play with the unopened presents that Santa left under the tree. After our parents drank their first cup of coffee, we could open the rest of the presents from Santa, minus the stockings.

After all the Santa gifts were opened someone would pass out the gifts from under the tree (usually me) after all the gifts were opened my mom would do a quick and easy breakfast while she drank the rest of her coffee and we played with our new toys. (My favorite breakfast for Christmas morning is Pillsbury cinnamon rolls).

After breakfast we all did stockings and called family, thanking them for all the gifts they sent (by then it was around 8). After all the excitement I would help my mom in the kitchen getting everything ready for our big Christmas dinner. (I usually ran in to taste test all the food between playing with all my new toys).

We would watch A Christmas Story on repeat until my mom turned blue in the face from telling us to change the channel. (My dad would put it right back on if my mom changed the channel).

Dinner would be around 2:30-3:00 depending on when the turkey landed in the oven. After dinner we would all lady around playing with it good or napping. Napping is now the better choice!

Not much has changed since I was little. My husband and I try to drive around and look at Christmas lights on Christmas Eve. My dad passed several years ago, but I still annoy my mom with A Christmas Story on repeat. I am married now, to a man who would rather sleep in until noon instead of seeing what Santa brought. I help out more in the kitchen and there were a couple years that I did dinner myself. I also rather give gifts than receive them now.

Saving for Christmas

What are you doing to save money for Christmas? I used to put $100 away each week throughout the year to help save for Christmas and putting everything I didn’t spend into savings. That plan worked alright but I tended to buy way too much stuff for Christmas. I now limit myself to spending around $100 per family member and around$25-50 per friend.

How do I save money for Christmas now? In my last post I explained how to use Ibotta, the money I get back from Ibotta I put towards Christmas gifts. I also buy potential gifts throughout the year so I don’t have to spend a ton of money all at once. I buy Christmas cards and wrapping paper after Christmas when they are 75%-90% off. That saves a ton of money in the long run, I also reuse all gift bags that I receive. You can check out my Ibotta blog post here: https://frugalfamilyweb.wordpress.com/2017/09/07/ibotta/

I am a couponer so I hunt for the best deals even for gifts and I will stock up on potential gifts when I find them cheap. A few weeks ago I found a pack of 5 candles for $7 at Walmart. I plan on taking the candles out of the packaging and giving them as individual gifts.

I do have a small stockpile of items that I could put together in a small gift basket. Items like Bath and Body Works body wash, body spray, hand soap, bath bombs, and candles are great to throw in a small basket for a gift. I try to only by Bath and Body works during the semi annual sales in January and June to save hundreds of dollars a year. The majority of the basket I but to keep on hand are from the dollar tree in the organization section.

The Dollar Tree is another great place to find cheap items that could be placed in a gift basket. The kids section at the dollar tree is wonderful especially if you need to buy for several kids. There are good sized coloring books, children’s books, and there have recently been some children’s Blu-ray movies spotted at the dollar tree.

The last way I will be saving money on Christmas gifts is using very dice to get a few gifts for family. You can check out my very dice blog post here: https://frugalfamilyweb.wordpress.com/2017/08/04/verydice/

I will do a few blog posts when I have time in the next few weeks on gifts that I make to save money. My schedule is pretty hectic right now so I will get some crafting done shortly so I can share a few great ideas with all of you.

Leave me a comment below to share ways that you save money on or for Christmas gifts. Have a wonderful week everybody!
